Steak and onions

Oooh yes — steak and onions is pure comfort. Simple, savory, and hard to mess up 🤌🥩

Classic Steak & Onions

Ingredients

  • 1–1½ lb steak (sirloin, ribeye, or strip), sliced or whole
  • Salt & black pepper
  • 2 large onions, sliced
  • 2 tbsp oil
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce (optional but 🔥)
  • Optional: garlic, thyme, or a splash of beef broth

Instructions

  1. Season the steak
    Pat dry and season generously with salt and pepper.
  2. Cook the steak
    Heat a skillet over high heat with 1 tbsp oil.
    Sear steak 3–4 min per side (medium-rare). Remove and rest.
  3. Caramelize the onions
    Lower heat to medium. Add remaining oil + butter.
    Add onions with a pinch of salt. Cook 15–20 minutes, stirring occasionally, until soft and golden.
  4. Bring it together
    Stir in Worcestershire (and garlic if using).
    Slice steak and return it to the pan with the onions. Toss briefly to coat.
  5. Serve hot
    Spoon onions over steak and enjoy.

Optional upgrades

  • Smothered style: Add ½ cup beef broth and simmer 5 minutes
  • Gravy version: Sprinkle 1 tbsp flour over onions, then add broth
  • Pepper steak vibes: Add sliced bell peppers at the end

Perfect with mashed potatoes, rice, or just a hunk of bread to soak it all up 😌
