Spinach fritters

Posted on November 25, 2025 by Admin

Here’s a simple and delicious Spinach Fritters recipe—crispy on the outside, tender and flavorful on the inside. These work great as an appetizer, snack, or side dish.

🌿 Spinach Fritters

Ingredients (Makes ~12 fritters)

  • 2 cups fresh spinach, finely chopped (or 1 cup cooked and drained)
  • 2 large eggs
  • ½ cup all-purpose flour (or chickpea flour for gluten-free)
  • ¼ cup grated Parmesan (optional, adds flavor)
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 1–2 cloves garlic, minced
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ¼ tsp black pepper
  • ¼ tsp nutmeg (optional, enhances flavor)
  • 2–3 tbsp olive oil or vegetable oil (for frying)

Instructions

1. Prepare the Spinach

  • Wash, dry, and finely chop fresh spinach.
  • If using frozen, thaw and squeeze out excess water.

2. Make the Batter

  1. In a large bowl, whisk the eggs.
  2. Stir in flour, Parmesan, onion, garlic, salt, pepper, and nutmeg.
  3. Fold in chopped spinach until well combined.
  • The batter should hold together but still be a bit loose. If too dry, add a splash of milk; if too wet, add a little more flour.

3. Fry the Fritters

  1. Heat 2–3 tbsp oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
  2. Scoop 2–3 tbsp of batter for each fritter and flatten slightly in the pan.
  3. Cook 2–3 minutes per side, until golden brown and cooked through.
  4. Transfer to a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil.

4. Serve

  • Serve hot with:
    • Yogurt or sour cream dip
    • Tzatziki sauce
    • Lemon wedges

✨ Tips & Variations

  • Cheese lovers: Add feta or cheddar cubes into the batter.
  • Herbs: Mix in dill, parsley, or chives for extra flavor.
  • Spicy: Add a pinch of red pepper flakes or chopped green chili.
  • Baking option: Bake at 375°F (190°C) for 15–20 minutes, flipping halfway, for a lighter version.
