A slow cooker beef stew is a hearty dish where beef and vegetables cook slowly for several hours, becoming very tender and flavorful. It’s similar to traditional beef stew, but made easily in a slow cooker (also called a crock pot).

  • 700–900 g beef chuck (cut into cubes)
  • 3 potatoes (chopped)
  • 2 carrots (sliced)
  • 1 onion (chopped)
  • 3 cloves garlic (minced)
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 2 tbsp tomato paste
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp salt
  • Β½ tsp black pepper
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 1 tsp dried thyme
  • 2 tbsp flour or cornstarch (to thicken)
  • Optional: mushrooms or peas

🍳 Instructions

  1. Prepare the beef
    Season beef with salt, pepper, and paprika. (Optional: brown it in a pan for extra flavor.)
  2. Add to slow cooker
    Put beef, potatoes, carrots, onion, and garlic into the slow cooker.
  3. Add liquids
    Pour in beef broth, tomato paste, and Worcestershire sauce.
  4. Cook slowly
    • Low: 7–8 hours
    • High: 4–5 hours
  5. Thicken the stew
    Mix flour or cornstarch with a little water, stir into the stew, and cook another 15–20 minutes.

  • Use beef chuck because it becomes very tender when slow-cooked.
  • Browning the meat first adds deeper flavor.
  • Add peas in the last 30 minutes so they stay fresh.
