Shrimp gratin

Posted on December 27, 2025 by Admin

Here’s a tasty and creamy Shrimp Gratin recipe that’s easy to make at home. It’s cheesy, flavorful, and perfect as a main dish or appetizer.

Ingredients (for 2–3 servings)

  • 250–300 g (about 1/2 lb) shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 1 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup milk (or cream for richer taste)
  • 1/4 cup grated cheese (Gruyère, cheddar, or mozzarella)
  • 1/4 cup breadcrumbs (optional, for a crunchy topping)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1/4 tsp paprika (optional)
  • Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 180°C (350°F). Grease a small gratin dish.
  2. Cook shrimp:
    • In a skillet, melt 1 tbsp butter over medium heat.
    • Sauté shrimp for 1–2 minutes per side until just pink. Remove and set aside.
  3. Make the sauce:
    • In the same skillet, melt the remaining butter. Add onion and garlic; sauté until soft and fragrant.
    • Stir in flour and cook 1 minute to form a roux.
    • Gradually whisk in milk until smooth and slightly thickened.
    • Season with salt, pepper, and paprika.
  4. Assemble the gratin:
    • Place shrimp in the gratin dish. Pour the sauce over the shrimp.
    • Sprinkle grated cheese evenly on top.
    • Add breadcrumbs if using.
  5. Bake:
    • Bake for 15–20 minutes, until the top is golden and bubbly.
  6. Serve:
    • Garnish with chopped parsley. Serve hot with bread, rice, or a light salad.

✅ Tips:

  • You can add a handful of spinach or mushrooms for extra flavor and nutrition.
  • Using half-and-half or cream instead of milk makes the gratin richer and creamier.
  • For a lighter version, use low-fat milk and reduce the cheese slightly.

I can also make a quick 15-minute stovetop version that skips baking but still gives a creamy, cheesy shrimp dish—perfect if you’re short on time. Do you want me to do that?
