Here’s a classic, hearty Sausage, Egg & Cheese Breakfast Sandwich—just like a diner favorite, but better at home:


Sausage, Egg & Cheese Breakfast Sandwich

Ingredients (makes 2 sandwiches)

  • 2 breakfast sausage patties
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 slices American, cheddar, or Swiss cheese
  • 2 English muffins, biscuits, or bagels (split)
  • 1 tbsp butter
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste

Instructions

  1. Cook the sausage
    • Heat a skillet over medium heat.
    • Cook sausage patties 3–4 minutes per side until browned and cooked through.
    • Remove and keep warm.
  2. Toast the bread
    • Split and toast English muffins/biscuits/bagels until golden.
  3. Cook the eggs
    • Melt butter in the same skillet over medium-low heat.
    • Crack eggs into pan.
    • Season with salt and pepper.
    • Cook to your preference:
      • Fried: flip once for over-easy or over-medium
      • Scrambled: whisk eggs first, then cook gently
  4. Assemble
    • Bottom bread → sausage → egg → cheese → top bread.
    • Let sit 1 minute so cheese melts.
  5. Serve
    • Enjoy hot with coffee or fruit.

Pro Tips

  • Melty cheese hack: Place cheese on the egg while still in the pan and cover for 30 seconds.
  • Fast-food style egg: Whisk eggs, pour into greased ring mold, cook covered.
  • Make ahead: Wrap sandwiches in foil and freeze. Reheat in oven or air fryer.
