Here’s a classic, hearty Sausage and Peppers recipe—perfect for a quick dinner, sandwich filling, or Italian-style meal.


🌭 Sausage and Peppers

🛒 Ingredients

  • 1 lb Italian sausage (mild, sweet, or hot)
  • 2–3 bell peppers (red, yellow, green), sliced
  • 1 large onion, sliced
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 2–3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 can (14 oz) diced tomatoes (optional for a saucier version)
  • Salt & pepper to taste
  • Optional: Italian seasoning or red pepper flakes

1️⃣ Cook the Sausage

  1. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
  2. Brown sausage on all sides, about 5–7 minutes.
  3. Remove and set aside.

2️⃣ Sauté Vegetables

  1. In the same skillet, add onions and bell peppers.
  2. Cook 5–7 minutes until slightly softened.
  3. Add garlic and cook 30 seconds more.

3️⃣ Combine & Simmer

  1. Return sausage to the skillet.
  2. Add diced tomatoes if using, along with salt, pepper, and optional seasonings.
  3. Simmer 10–15 minutes until sausages are cooked through and peppers are tender.

4️⃣ Serve

  • As-is with a fork and knife
  • On hoagie rolls for a sausage and pepper sandwich
  • Over pasta or rice for a heartier meal

  • Frozen sausage works fine; just add a few extra minutes to cook through.
  • For a sweeter flavor, use a mix of red and yellow peppers.
  • Add fresh basil or parsley at the end for color and freshness.
