🍽️ Salisbury Steak with Gravy

Salisbury steak is a classic American comfort food made from seasoned ground beef patties, usually served with rich brown gravy and often paired with mashed potatoes or vegetables.

🥩 Ingredients

For the steaks:

  • 1 lb (450g) ground beef
  • 1/3 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 egg
  • 2 tbsp ketchup
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 small onion, finely minced
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • Salt and black pepper to taste

For the gravy:

  • 1 small onion, thinly sliced
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tbsp ketchup
  • 1–2 tbsp flour (for thickening)
  • 2 tbsp butter or oil

👩‍🍳 Instructions

1️⃣ Make the Patties

  1. In a bowl, mix ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, minced onion, garlic powder, salt, and pepper.
  2. Form into 3–4 oval patties.

2️⃣ Brown the Steaks

  1. Heat oil or butter in a skillet over medium heat.
  2. Cook patties for about 4–5 minutes per side until browned.
  3. Remove from pan and set aside.

3️⃣ Make the Gravy

  1. In the same skillet, sauté sliced onions until soft.
  2. Sprinkle flour over onions and stir for 1 minute.
  3. Slowly add beef broth while stirring to avoid lumps.
  4. Add Worcestershire sauce and ketchup. Simmer until thickened.

4️⃣ Finish Cooking

  1. Return patties to the skillet.
  2. Cover and simmer for 10–15 minutes until fully cooked and tender.

🍽️ Serving Suggestions

  • Creamy mashed potatoes
  • Buttered egg noodles
  • Steamed green beans or peas
