🧾 Ingredients

For the cake:

  • 2½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1½ cups sugar
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp cocoa powder
  • 1½ cups vegetable oil
  • 1 cup buttermilk (room temp)
  • 2 large eggs (room temp)
  • 2 tbsp red food coloring

For cream cheese frosting:

  • 200g cream cheese (softened)
  • ½ cup butter (softened)
  • 3–4 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

1. Prep

  • Preheat oven to 175°C (350°F)
  • Grease and flour two 9-inch cake pans

2. Mix dry ingredients

  • In a bowl, sift flour, sugar, baking soda, salt, and cocoa powder

3. Mix wet ingredients

  • In another bowl, whisk oil, buttermilk, eggs, food coloring, vanilla, and vinegar

4. Combine

  • Gradually mix wet into dry until smooth (don’t overmix)

5. Bake

  • Divide batter into pans
  • Bake 30–35 minutes (toothpick comes out clean)
  • Cool completely
