Potato and minced meat casserole is hearty, comforting, and easy to make 🥔🍖
Here’s a classic oven-baked version that’s simple and family-friendly.


Potato & Minced Meat Casserole

Ingredients

  • 1½–2 lbs potatoes, thinly sliced
  • 1 lb minced meat (beef, pork, or mix)
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup beef or chicken broth
  • 1 cup milk or cream
  • 1 cup shredded cheese (cheddar or mozzarella)
  • 2 tbsp oil or butter
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • Salt, to taste
  • Optional: thyme, oregano, or parsley

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven: 375°F (190°C). Grease a baking dish.
  2. Cook minced meat:
    Heat oil in a pan, sauté onion and garlic until soft.
    Add minced meat, paprika, salt, and pepper. Cook until browned.
  3. Layer casserole:
    • Layer half the potatoes in the dish
    • Spread minced meat evenly
    • Add remaining potatoes on top
  4. Add liquid:
    Mix broth and milk (or cream). Pour evenly over the casserole.
  5. Bake covered:
    Cover with foil and bake for 45 minutes.
  6. Add cheese:
    Remove foil, sprinkle cheese on top, and bake uncovered another 20–25 minutes until potatoes are tender and top is golden.
  7. Rest:
    Let sit 10 minutes before serving.

Tips & Variations

  • Slice potatoes thin for even cooking
  • Add sliced carrots or peas for vegetables
  • For extra richness, replace milk with cream
  • Season each layer lightly for best flavor
