Poor Man’s Steak
Ingredients (serves 4–6)
- 1½ lb ground beef (80/20 works best)
- 1 cup milk
- 1 cup cracker crumbs or breadcrumbs
- 1 small onion, finely diced
- 1 large egg
- 1 tsp salt
- ½ tsp black pepper
- ½ tsp garlic powder
Gravy:
- 2 cans (10.5 oz each) cream of mushroom soup
- 1 cup milk or beef broth
- 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat Oven
Preheat to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13 baking dish. - Mix the Meat
In a large bowl, combine ground beef, milk, crumbs, onion, egg, salt, pepper, and garlic powder.
Mix gently until just combined. - Form Patties
Shape into oval “steaks” about ¾-inch thick and place in the baking dish. - Make the Gravy
Whisk together cream of mushroom soup, milk (or broth), and Worcestershire sauce.
Pour evenly over the patties. - Bake
Cover with foil and bake 1 hour.
Uncover and bake an additional 15–20 minutes until gravy thickens and patties are tender. - Serve
Spoon gravy over steaks and serve hot.
