Phalaenopsis orchid

Posted on February 13, 2026 by Admin

🌸 Phalaenopsis orchid (Moth Orchid)

Phalaenopsis are one of the easiest and most popular orchids to grow indoors. Their long-lasting blooms and low-maintenance nature make them ideal houseplants.

🌿 Why They’re So Popular

  • Flowers last 2–3 months (sometimes longer)
  • Bloom once or twice a year
  • Thrive in normal home temperatures
  • Elegant arching flower spikes

☀️ Light

  • Bright, indirect light (near an east window is ideal)
  • Avoid harsh direct sun — it can scorch leaves
  • Dark green leaves = not enough light
  • Slight yellow tint = good light

💧 Watering

  • Water once a week (less in winter)
  • Let water drain completely — never let roots sit in water
  • Roots should be:
    • Silvery/gray = time to water
    • Bright green = hydrated

Tip: Most are planted in bark, not soil.

🌡 Temperature & Humidity

  • Ideal temp: 65–80°F (18–27°C)
  • Likes moderate humidity (40–60%)
  • Keep away from cold drafts

🌸 Reblooming Tips

After flowers fade:

  1. Cut the spike just above a node (little bump) for a possible side bloom.
  2. Or cut it at the base to let the plant rest and grow new leaves.

More light in fall often triggers new flower spikes.

🌱 Fertilizing

  • Use a balanced orchid fertilizer
  • “Weakly, weekly” — dilute and feed lightly
