Peach Dumplings

Here’s a classic, comforting Peach Dumplings recipe—soft dough wrapped around juicy peaches in a sweet syrup 🍑🥟


Old-Fashioned Peach Dumplings

Ingredients

Dumplings

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tbsp baking powder
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ¼ cup shortening or cold butter
  • ¾ cup milk

Filling

  • 4 large peaches, peeled, pitted, and halved
  • ½ cup sugar
  • ½ tsp cinnamon
  • ¼ tsp nutmeg (optional)

Syrup

  • 1½ cups water
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Prep
    • Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
    • Butter a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  2. Make Dough
    • Whisk flour, baking powder, and salt.
    • Cut in shortening/butter until crumbly.
    • Stir in milk until a soft dough forms.
  3. Assemble Dumplings
    • Roll dough out to about ¼-inch thick.
    • Cut into squares large enough to wrap peach halves.
    • Place a peach half in center of each square.
    • Sprinkle with cinnamon-sugar.
    • Fold dough up and pinch to seal.
  4. Make Syrup
    • In a saucepan, boil water, sugar, and butter for 2 minutes.
    • Remove from heat and stir in vanilla.
  5. Bake
    • Arrange dumplings seam-side down in dish.
    • Pour syrup evenly over dumplings.
    • Bake 40–45 minutes, until golden and bubbly.
  6. Serve
    • Serve warm with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.

Tips & Variations

  • Shortcut: Use canned peach halves (drained).
  • Crescent roll version: Wrap peaches in crescent dough.
  • Spiced: Add a cinnamon stick or splash of bourbon to syrup.
  • Extra rich: Drizzle with cream just before serving.
