Old Fashioned Peach Cobbler

Posted on February 19, 2026 by Admin

🍑 Old-Fashioned Peach Cobbler

A true Southern-style classic — warm, syrupy peaches with a buttery, golden crust on top. This version is simple, nostalgic, and tastes like it came from grandma’s kitchen.

🛒 Ingredients

Filling

  • 6–8 fresh peaches (about 6 cups sliced)
(or 2 large cans, drained if not in juice)
  • ¾–1 cup sugar (adjust to sweetness of peaches)
  • 1–2 tbsp lemon juice
  • ½ tsp cinnamon (optional)
  • ¼ tsp nutmeg (optional)
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1–2 tbsp cornstarch (for thicker filling)

Cobbler Batter

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 cup milk
  • ½ cup (1 stick) butter
  • 1½ tsp baking powder
  • Pinch of salt

🔥 Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Prepare peaches
In a bowl, mix sliced peaches with sugar, lemon juice, vanilla, spices, and cornstarch. Let sit 10–15 minutes.
  3. Melt butter
Place butter in a 9×13 baking dish and put in oven until melted. Remove once melted.
  4. Make batter
Mix flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, and milk until smooth.
  5. Assemble (Do NOT Stir!)
    • Pour batter evenly over melted butter.
    • Spoon peaches and juices over batter.
    • Do not mix — the magic happens while baking.
  6. Bake
40–50 minutes until golden brown and bubbly.
  7. Rest
Let cool 10–15 minutes before serving (it thickens as it sits).

🍨 Serve With

  • Vanilla ice cream
  • Whipped cream
  • Or just eat it warm straight from the dish

🍑 Fresh vs Canned Peaches

  • Fresh = brighter flavor
  • Canned = more syrupy, nostalgic taste
  • Frozen = works great (thaw and drain first)

If you’d like, I can also give you:

  • A traditional Southern biscuit-top version
  • A healthier / lower-sugar version
  • A cast iron skillet version
  • Or a peach cobbler like they serve at The Lady & Sons by Paula Deen
