Mac and cheese lasagna

Posted on December 18, 2025 by Admin

Here’s a decadent and comforting Mac and Cheese Lasagna recipe—layers of creamy mac and cheese and lasagna noodles baked to golden perfection.

Mac and Cheese Lasagna

Servings: 6–8

Ingredients

For the Cheese Sauce / Mac and Cheese:

  • 3 cups elbow macaroni
  • 3 tbsp butter
  • 3 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 3 cups milk
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • ½ tsp garlic powder (optional)

For the Lasagna:

  • 9–12 lasagna noodles, cooked according to package instructions
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella (for topping)
  • ¼ cup grated Parmesan (for topping)

Instructions

  1. Cook macaroni
    • Boil macaroni according to package directions. Drain and set aside.
  2. Make cheese sauce
    • In a medium saucepan, melt butter over medium heat.
    • Stir in flour and cook 1–2 minutes until lightly golden.
    • Gradually whisk in milk, cooking until thickened, about 5–7 minutes.
    • Remove from heat and stir in cheddar, mozzarella, and Parmesan. Season with salt, pepper, and garlic powder.
    • Stir in cooked macaroni until evenly coated.
  3. Assemble lasagna
    • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
    • In a greased 9×13-inch baking dish, layer:
      1. A thin layer of cheese sauce
      2. A layer of lasagna noodles
      3. Half the remaining mac and cheese
      4. Repeat layers, ending with noodles on top
    • Spread remaining mac and cheese over the top layer of noodles. Sprinkle with mozzarella and Parmesan.
  4. Bake
    • Cover with foil and bake 25 minutes.
    • Remove foil and bake an additional 10–15 minutes until the top is golden and bubbly.
  5. Serve
    • Let stand 5–10 minutes before slicing. Serve warm.

Pro Tips

  • Extra cheesy: Use a mix of sharp cheddar and Gruyère for depth of flavor.
  • Add-ins: Cooked bacon, sautéed spinach, or caramelized onions can be layered in for extra richness.
  • Make-ahead: Assemble and refrigerate for up to 24 hours before baking—add 5–10 minutes to baking time if cold.
  • Crunchy topping: Mix ¼ cup panko breadcrumbs with a little melted butter and sprinkle on top before baking for a golden crust.

If you want, I can also provide a one-pot stovetop version that mimics this lasagna but is faster and easier to make.

Do you want me to do that?
