🥧 Lean Ground turkey Shepherd’s Pie

A lighter twist on the traditional Shepherd’s pie, this version uses lean ground turkey instead of lamb or beef. It’s hearty, nutritious, and great for a healthy comfort meal. 🍽️


🥔 Ingredients

For the filling

  • 450–500 g lean ground turkey
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup diced carrots
  • 1 cup frozen peas
  • 1 tablespoon tomato paste
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 cup chicken broth
  • ½ teaspoon dried thyme
  • Salt and black pepper to taste

For the topping

  • 3 cups mashed Potatoes
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • 1 tablespoon butter or olive oil
  • Salt and pepper

👨‍🍳 Instructions

1. Cook the turkey
Heat olive oil in a pan over medium heat. Add onion and garlic and sauté until soft. Add the ground turkey and cook until browned.

2. Add vegetables
Stir in carrots and cook for about 5 minutes.

3. Make the sauce
Add tomato paste, Worcestershire sauce, thyme, and chicken broth. Simmer for 8–10 minutes until slightly thickened. Stir in peas.

4. Prepare the mashed potatoes
Mix mashed potatoes with milk, butter, salt, and pepper until smooth.

5. Assemble

  • Spread the turkey mixture in a baking dish.
  • Spread mashed potatoes evenly on top.

6. Bake
Bake at 190 °C (375 °F) for 20–25 minutes, until the top is lightly golden.

  • Replace potatoes with mashed cauliflower for fewer carbs.
  • Add extra vegetables like mushrooms or spinach.
