Italian Stromboli

Here’s a classic Italian Stromboli—crispy outside, melty inside 🇮🇹🍕

Italian Stromboli

Ingredients

  • 1 lb pizza dough (store-bought or homemade)
  • ½ cup marinara sauce (for dipping, not inside)
  • 1½–2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • ¼ cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 12–16 slices Italian meats (pepperoni, salami, ham, or capicola)
  • ½ cup sautéed bell peppers or onions (optional)
  • 1 tsp Italian seasoning
  • 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
  • Olive oil

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F (205°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Roll the dough
    Roll dough into a rectangle about 10×14 inches on a lightly floured surface.
  3. Layer the fillings
    • Sprinkle mozzarella and Parmesan, leaving a 1-inch border
    • Add meats evenly
    • Add veggies (if using)
    • Sprinkle Italian seasoning
  4. Roll it up
    Roll tightly from the long side like a jelly roll.
    Pinch seams and tuck ends underneath.
  5. Prepare for baking
    Place seam-side down on the baking sheet.
    Brush with egg wash and lightly drizzle with olive oil.
    Cut a few small slits on top to release steam.
  6. Bake
    Bake 25–30 minutes, until golden brown.
  7. Rest & slice
    Let rest 5–10 minutes before slicing.

Serving

  • Slice and serve with warm marinara for dipping
  • Great with a simple salad

Variations

  • Veggie: Spinach, mushrooms, olives
  • Cheesy: Add provolone or ricotta
  • Spicy: Add banana peppers or crushed red pepper
