Homemade floor cleaner

Posted on February 26, 2026 by Admin

Here’s a safe, simple, and effective homemade floor cleaner you can make with ingredients you likely have at home:

1. Basic All-Purpose Floor Cleaner

Ingredients:

  • 1 bucket (about 4 liters) of warm water
  • ½ cup white vinegar
  • A few drops of liquid dish soap (optional for grease)

Instructions:

  1. Mix the vinegar and water in the bucket.
  2. Add a few drops of dish soap if your floors are greasy.
  3. Mop your floor as usual.
  4. Rinse with clean water if the floor feels slippery.

✅ Works well on tile, vinyl, laminate, and linoleum. Avoid using on natural stone (marble, granite) as vinegar can etch it.

2. Citrus-Scented Cleaner

Ingredients:

  • 1 bucket of warm water
  • ½ cup lemon juice or 1–2 tablespoons orange peels boiled in water
  • Optional: a few drops of essential oil (like lavender or tea tree for extra cleaning power)

Instructions:

  1. Mix lemon juice or citrus water into warm water.
  2. Add essential oil if desired.
  3. Mop your floors.

✅ Adds a fresh scent and has natural antibacterial properties.

3. Baking Soda Boost for Tough Stains

Ingredients:

  • 1 bucket of warm water
  • ½ cup white vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons baking soda

Instructions:

  1. Mix all ingredients carefully (baking soda and vinegar will fizz, so add slowly).
  2. Mop the floor and let sit for a few minutes on stubborn spots.
  3. Wipe with a clean damp mop.

✅ Good for tile or ceramic floors with grime buildup.

💡 Tips:

  • Always sweep or vacuum before mopping.
  • Test a small hidden area first if using on wood or delicate surfaces.
  • Avoid soaking wood floors; use a damp mop rather than soaking.

If you want, I can give you a super simple 2-ingredient “wood-friendly” floor cleaner that leaves a shine without any harsh chemicals. It’s one of my favorites for wood floors. Do you want me to share that?
