Garlic mashed potatoes

Posted on February 20, 2026 by Admin

Here’s a classic Garlic Mashed Potatoes recipe — creamy, flavorful, and perfect as a side for any meal.

🥔 Garlic Mashed Potatoes

🧂 Ingredients (Serves 4–6)

  • 2 lbs (≈900 g) potatoes (Yukon Gold or Russet)
  • 4–5 cloves garlic, peeled
  • ½ cup milk (warm)
  • ¼ cup butter
  • Salt & black pepper to taste
  • Optional: 2–3 tbsp sour cream or cream cheese for extra creaminess
  • Optional garnish: chopped parsley

👩‍🍳 Instructions

1️⃣ Prep the Potatoes

  1. Peel potatoes and cut into roughly equal chunks.
  2. Add garlic cloves to the pot with potatoes.

2️⃣ Boil

  1. Place potatoes and garlic in a large pot of salted water.
  2. Bring to a boil and cook until potatoes are tender (~15–20 minutes).
  3. Drain well.

3️⃣ Mash

  1. Mash potatoes and garlic together using a potato masher or fork.
  2. Add butter and warm milk gradually, mixing until smooth.
  3. Optional: stir in sour cream or cream cheese for extra richness.

4️⃣ Season

  • Add salt and pepper to taste.
  • Garnish with chopped parsley if desired.

🍽️ Serving Tips

  • Serve immediately as a side with roasted chicken, steak, or holiday meals.
  • For a lighter version, use olive oil instead of butter and low-fat milk.

🔥 Tips for Perfect Mashed Potatoes

  • Use starchy potatoes (Russet or Yukon Gold) for fluffy texture.
  • Warm the milk before adding to keep potatoes creamy.
  • Don’t overmix, or potatoes can become gluey.
  • Roasting the garlic before boiling adds a sweeter, mellow flavor.

If you want, I can also give a roasted garlic version that’s extra flavorful and slightly caramelized — it’s a fan favorite for holiday dinners.

Do you want me to do that?
