Here’s a simple, delicious recipe for Fried Salmon Patties!

Fried Salmon Patties (Southern-Style)

Ingredients (makes 6–8 patties)

  • 1 can (14–15 oz) salmon, drained and flaked
or 1½ cups cooked fresh salmon, flaked
  • 1 egg
  • ½ cup breadcrumbs or crushed crackers (Ritz or saltines work great)
  • ¼ cup finely diced onion
  • 1–2 tbsp mayonnaise or a splash of milk (optional for moisture)
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • ½ tsp garlic powder (optional)
  • ½ tsp paprika (optional)
  • 1–2 tbsp chopped parsley or green onion (optional)
  • Oil for frying (vegetable, canola, or light olive oil)

Instructions

  1. Mix the salmon
In a medium bowl, combine the flaked salmon (remove large bones if preferred, though they’re edible) with egg, breadcrumbs/crackers, onion, and seasonings.
  2. Adjust texture
Mixture should hold together when pressed.

    • Too dry? Add a little mayo or milk.
    • Too wet? Add more breadcrumbs.
  3. Form patties
Shape into 6–8 small patties (about ½–¾ inch thick).
  4. Heat the oil
Add about ¼ inch of oil to a skillet and heat over medium to medium-high until shimmering.
  5. Fry the patties
Cook patties 3–4 minutes per side until golden brown and crisp.
    Don’t overcrowd the pan.
  6. Drain & serve
Transfer to a paper towel–lined plate.

Serving Ideas

  • Serve with lemon wedges, tartar sauce, or spicy mayo
  • Pair with mashed potatoes, coleslaw, or mixed greens
  • Great on buns for salmon burgers

Tips

  • For extra crunch, dredge patties lightly in flour before frying.
  • Add a dash of Old Bay for a coastal flavor.
  • Leftovers reheat best in an air fryer or oven.

If you want, I can also provide a baked version, air-fried version, or a low-carb twist!
