Fried halloumi cheese

Posted on October 24, 2025 by Admin
Ah, fried halloumi β€” crispy on the outside, squeaky and soft on the inside, and so addictive πŸ§€βœ¨. Here’s a simple way to make it perfectly every time:

πŸ§€ Fried Halloumi Cheese

Ingredients

  • 200–250 g (7–9 oz) halloumi cheese

  • 1–2 tbsp olive oil (or neutral oil like sunflower)

  • Optional: lemon wedges for serving

  • Optional: fresh herbs (parsley, mint, or oregano)

πŸ‘©β€πŸ³ Instructions

1. Prep the cheese

  • Remove halloumi from the package and pat dry with paper towels (removes excess brine).

  • Slice into Β½-inch thick slices.

2. Heat the pan

  • Heat olive oil in a non-stick or cast-iron skillet over medium-high heat.

3. Fry the halloumi

  • Place the slices in the hot pan (don’t overcrowd).

  • Fry 2–3 minutes per side, until golden brown and crispy.

  • Flip gently β€” halloumi can stick if the pan isn’t hot enough.

4. Serve

  • Serve immediately while warm and slightly melty inside.

  • Squeeze lemon juice over the top and sprinkle with fresh herbs if desired.

🌟 Tips

  • Avoid high heat: Too hot and the halloumi will burn before it softens.

  • Optional coating: Lightly dust slices with flour or breadcrumbs for extra crispiness.

  • Serving ideas:

    • As a snack with dips like tzatziki or sweet chili sauce.

    • On salads, grain bowls, or in sandwiches/pita wraps.

    • Paired with roasted vegetables or fresh tomatoes for a Mediterranean vibe.

If you want, I can also give a crispy oven-baked version that uses less oil but still gets golden and crunchy. Do you want that version too?
