French toast

Posted on January 5, 2026February 2, 2026 by Admin

Here’s a simple, classic French toast recipe—golden on the outside, soft and custardy inside:

Ingredients (serves 2–3):

  • 4–6 slices thick bread (brioche, challah, or Texas toast are best)
  • 2 large eggs
  • ½ cup milk (or half-and-half for richer toast)
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • ½ tsp cinnamon (optional)
  • Pinch of salt
  • Butter for cooking

Instructions:

  1. Whisk the custard
Mix eggs, milk, vanilla, cinnamon, and salt in a shallow bowl.
  2. Dip the bread
Soak each slice about 10 seconds per side—enough to absorb but not get soggy.
  3. Cook
Heat a skillet or griddle over medium heat.
Melt butter and cook bread 2–3 minutes per side until golden brown.
  4. Serve
Top with maple syrup, powdered sugar, fruit, or butter.

Tips for the best French toast:

  • Use slightly stale bread for better texture
  • Keep heat at medium so it cooks through without burning
  • For extra flavor, add a pinch of nutmeg or orange zest

If you’d like, I can share a baked French toast casserole, stuffed French toast, or a savory version too.
