🥖 Fleischmann’s Active Dry Yeast
A classic baking yeast used for breads, rolls, pizza dough, and sweet doughs.
📦 What It Is
Active dry yeast is:
- Granulated dormant yeast
- Needs to be dissolved (“proofed”) in warm liquid before use
- Shelf-stable until opened
🌡 How to Activate (Proof) It
- Warm water or milk to 100–110°F (38–43°C)
(Too hot = kills yeast. Too cold = won’t activate.) - Add:
- 1 packet (2ÂĽ tsp) yeast
- 1 tsp sugar (feeds yeast)
- Let sit 5–10 minutes
It should foam and bubble.
If it doesn’t foam → yeast may be dead.
📏 Packet Info
- 1 packet = 2ÂĽ teaspoons
- 1 packet works for about 4 cups of flour
🥖 When to Use It
Perfect for:
- Sandwich bread
- Dinner rolls
- Cinnamon rolls
- Pizza dough
- Sweet breads
🔄 Active Dry vs Instant Yeast
| Active Dry | Instant |
|---|---|
| Needs proofing | Can mix directly with flour |
| Slightly slower rise | Faster rise |
| More traditional | More convenient |
You can substitute 1:1, but instant yeast doesn’t require dissolving first.
🧊 Storage Tips
- Unopened: pantry is fine
- Opened: refrigerate or freeze (airtight)
