🥘 Easy 5-Ingredient Hamburger & Potato Casserole

🛒 Ingredients

  • 1 lb (450 g) ground beef
  • 4–5 medium potatoes, thinly sliced
  • 1 small onion, diced (optional, counts as one ingredient)
  • 1 can (10.5 oz) cream of mushroom soup (or cream of celery)
  • 1–2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • Salt & pepper to taste (not counted as ingredients)

1️⃣ Preheat & Prep

  • Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.

2️⃣ Cook the Beef

  • In a skillet, brown ground beef with onion (if using).
  • Drain excess fat. Season with salt and pepper.

3️⃣ Layer the Casserole

  • Spread a layer of sliced potatoes in the baking dish.
  • Spoon half of the beef mixture over potatoes.
  • Dollop half of the cream of mushroom soup over the beef.
  • Repeat layers.

4️⃣ Add Cheese & Bake

  • Sprinkle shredded cheddar cheese on top.
  • Cover with foil and bake 45 minutes.
  • Remove foil and bake another 15–20 minutes until potatoes are tender and cheese is melted.

5️⃣ Serve

  • Let rest 5 minutes before serving.
  • Serve with a simple salad or steamed veggies if desired.

  • Faster version: Parboil potatoes for 5–7 minutes before layering.
  • Extra flavor: Add a pinch of garlic powder, paprika, or dried herbs to the beef.
  • Make ahead: Assemble the casserole, cover, and refrigerate overnight; bake the next day.
