Crumb cake

Crumb cake is a soft, buttery cake topped with a thick layer of sweet, crumbly streusel—perfect with tea or coffee.


🍰 Classic Crumb Cake (Bakery-Style)

🧈 Crumb Topping

  • 1 cup flour
  • ½ cup brown sugar
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • Pinch of salt
  • ½ cup melted butter

👉 Mix until you get chunky crumbs. Set aside.


🍰 Cake Batter

  • 1½ cups flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • ½ tsp baking soda
  • ¼ tsp salt
  • ½ cup butter (softened)
  • ¾ cup sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • ½ cup milk or yogurt
  • 1 tsp vanilla

🔪 Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 180°C.
  2. Grease and line a baking pan.
  3. Cream butter + sugar until fluffy.
  4. Add eggs one at a time, then vanilla.
  5. Mix dry ingredients separately, then combine with wet.
  6. Pour batter into pan.
  7. Generously sprinkle crumb topping.
  8. Bake 35–45 minutes until a toothpick comes out clean.

💡 Tips

  • Don’t overmix the batter—keeps it soft.
  • Make big crumbs for that bakery look.
  • Add nuts or a little extra cinnamon if you like.

🍽️ Variations

  • Add apple slices → apple crumb cake
  • Add cocoa to crumbs → chocolate twist
  • Add a thin jam layer in the middle
