Here’s an easy, addictive, and ultra-crispy recipe for Crispy Potato Cheese Sticks — crunchy on the outside, melty-cheesy inside, perfect as a snack, appetizer, or party finger food!


🥔🧀 Crispy Potato Cheese Sticks

Ingredients (Makes ~20 sticks)

  • 2 cups mashed potatoes (fresh or leftover)
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • ½ cup shredded cheddar (optional for extra flavor)
  • ½ cup cornstarch (or flour)
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • Oil for frying (vegetable or canola)

Optional Add-ins

  • 2 tbsp chopped parsley
  • ½ tsp smoked paprika
  • Pinch of red pepper flakes

🔪 Instructions

1. Make the Dough

In a mixing bowl combine:

  • mashed potatoes
  • shredded cheese
  • cornstarch/flour
  • garlic powder
  • onion powder
  • salt & pepper
    Mix until a soft, smooth dough forms.
    (If too sticky, add 1–2 tbsp more cornstarch.)

2. Shape the Sticks

  1. Take a spoonful of dough and roll it into a log about 3–4 inches long.
  2. Repeat with remaining mixture.
  3. Place shaped sticks on a plate and refrigerate 20–30 minutes to firm up.

3. Fry

  1. Heat oil to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Fry potato cheese sticks in batches for 2–3 minutes, until golden and crispy.
  3. Drain on paper towels.

4. Serve

Serve hot with:

  • marinara
  • ranch
  • garlic aioli
  • spicy ketchup

✨ Baked or Air Fryer Versions

Air Fryer

  • Spray sticks with oil.
  • Air fry at 400°F for 10–12 minutes, flipping halfway.

Oven

  • Brush or spray with oil.
  • Bake at 425°F for 15–18 minutes, until golden.

🔥 Variations

Jalapeño Cheddar Sticks

Add minced jalapeños + use all cheddar.

Herb & Garlic Sticks

Add parsley + garlic + Italian seasoning.

Extra Crispy Version

Roll sticks in:

  • beaten egg, then
  • breadcrumbs
    before frying.
