🥬 Country Cabbage Rolls

🛒 Ingredients

  • 1 large head green cabbage
  • 1½ lb ground beef (or half beef / half pork)
  • 1 cup cooked rice
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tsp salt
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce

Sauce

  • 1 (15 oz) can tomato sauce
  • 1 (14.5 oz) can diced tomatoes
  • 2 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1 tbsp apple cider vinegar
  • 1 tsp dried thyme or oregano

🔪 Instructions

  1. Prepare cabbage
    • Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil.
    • Remove core from cabbage and boil whole head 8–10 minutes, peeling off softened leaves as they loosen.
    • Drain and cool.
  2. Make filling
    • In a bowl, combine ground meat, rice, onion, garlic, egg, salt, pepper, paprika, and Worcestershire.
  3. Assemble rolls
    • Place 2–3 tbsp filling on each cabbage leaf.
    • Fold sides in and roll tightly.
  4. Make sauce
    • Mix tomato sauce, diced tomatoes, brown sugar, vinegar, and herbs.
  5. Bake
    • Spread a thin layer of sauce in a large baking dish.
    • Arrange cabbage rolls seam-side down.
    • Pour remaining sauce over top.
    • Cover with foil and bake at 350°F (175°C) for 1½ hours.
  6. Serve
    • Let rest 10 minutes before serving.
