Cinnamon Sugar Cream Cheese Rolls

Makes: 8–10 rolls

  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • ⅓ cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 large egg
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour

For the cream cheese filling:

  • 4 oz (115 g) cream cheese, softened
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • ½ tsp vanilla extract

For the cinnamon sugar filling:

  • ¼ cup unsalted butter, softened
  • ½ cup brown sugar
  • 1–2 tsp ground cinnamon

Optional glaze:

  • ½ cup powdered sugar
  • 1–2 tsp milk or cream
  • ½ tsp vanilla extract

Instructions:

  1. Make the dough:
    • In a small bowl, dissolve yeast in warm milk with 1 tsp sugar. Let sit 5–10 minutes until foamy.
    • In a large bowl, mix melted butter, remaining sugar, salt, and egg. Add the yeast mixture.
    • Gradually add flour until a soft dough forms. Knead 5–7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
    • Cover and let rise in a warm place 1–1.5 hours, until doubled in size.
  2. Prepare the fillings:
    • Cream cheese filling: Mix softened cream cheese, sugar, and vanilla until smooth.
    • Cinnamon sugar filling: Mix softened butter, brown sugar, and cinnamon.
  3. Assemble rolls:
    • Roll dough into a rectangle (about 12×8 inches).
    • Spread cream cheese filling evenly over the dough.
    • Spread cinnamon sugar filling over the cream cheese layer.
    • Roll dough tightly from the long side. Slice into 8–10 rolls.
  4. Bake:
    • Place rolls in a greased baking dish. Cover and let rise 30 minutes.
    • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake 20–25 minutes until golden brown.
  5. Optional glaze:
    • Mix powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla. Drizzle over warm rolls before serving.
