Chili cheese dog boats

Ohhh, chili cheese dog boats šŸ˜ŒšŸŒ­ā€”pure comfort food energy. Here’s how to make them, easy and dangerously good.

What they are

Hot dogs tucked into hollowed-out buns, loaded with chili and melted cheese, baked until everything’s cozy and messy. Like a chili cheese dog… but upgraded.

How to make them

Ingredients

  • Hot dog buns (the sturdier the better)
  • Hot dogs
  • Chili (canned is totally fine, homemade if you’re feeling extra)
  • Shredded cheese (cheddar, Colby-Jack, or a cheddar-mozz mix)
  • Butter (optional but recommended)

Optional toppings

  • Diced onions
  • JalapeƱos
  • Sour cream
  • Green onions

Instructions

  1. Prep the buns
    Slice a ā€œVā€ out of the top of each bun and gently hollow it out so it can hold fillings. Don’t cut all the way through.
  2. Toast lightly (optional but clutch)
    Brush the inside with a little melted butter and bake at 375°F (190°C) for about 5 minutes so they don’t get soggy later.
  3. Add the dogs
    Nestle one hot dog into each bun.
  4. Load them up
    Spoon chili over the hot dog, then absolutely bury it in cheese. No restraint here.
  5. Bake
    Back into the oven for 10–15 minutes, until the cheese is melted and bubbling and the edges are a little crispy.
  6. Finish strong
    Add onions, jalapeƱos, or whatever chaos you enjoy.

Pro tips

  • Split the hot dogs lengthwise before adding if you want more surface area for chili.
  • Use thick chili—soupy chili = sad, soggy boats.
  • These are elite game-day food and even better eaten immediately.
