Cheesy Mashed Potato Puffs

Posted on November 21, 2025 by Admin

Here’s a tasty and easy recipe for Cheesy Mashed Potato Puffs — crispy on the outside, creamy and cheesy on the inside. Perfect as a side dish, appetizer, or party snack.

Cheesy Mashed Potato Puffs

Ingredients

  • 2 cups mashed potatoes (homemade or store-bought)
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese (or your favorite cheese)
  • 1/2 cup cooked bacon bits (optional)
  • 1/4 cup chopped green onions or chives
  • 1 large egg, beaten
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs or panko (for coating)
  • 2–3 tablespoons butter, melted

Instructions

1. Preheat oven

  • Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C).
  • Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or lightly grease it.

2. Mix the filling

  1. In a large bowl, combine mashed potatoes, shredded cheese, bacon (if using), green onions, egg, garlic powder, salt, and pepper.
  2. Mix until everything is well combined.

3. Shape the puffs

  1. Scoop a heaping tablespoon of the potato mixture and roll into balls.
  2. Roll each ball in breadcrumbs to coat evenly.
  3. Place on the prepared baking sheet.

4. Bake

  1. Brush or drizzle melted butter over the puffs.
  2. Bake 15–20 minutes, until golden brown and crispy on the outside.

5. Serve

  • Serve warm with sour cream, ranch dressing, or your favorite dipping sauce.

Tips

  • For extra crispiness, lightly spray puffs with cooking spray before baking.
  • You can add spices like smoked paprika, cayenne, or Italian seasoning for extra flavor.
  • Mini muffin tins work great for uniform bite-sized puffs.

I can also give you an air fryer version that comes out extra crispy in about 10 minutes.

Do you want that version?
