Cheesy Hamburger and Potato Casserole 🧀🥔🥩

This is a hearty, comforting dish that layers ground beef, potatoes, and cheese — perfect for an easy weeknight dinner.


🛒 Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 4–5 medium potatoes, thinly sliced
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 1 can (10.5 oz) cream of mushroom soup (or cream of chicken)
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese (plus extra for topping)
  • ½ cup milk
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • Optional: garlic powder, paprika, or chopped bell peppers

🥣 Instructions

1️⃣ Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.

2️⃣ Cook beef:

  • In a skillet, brown ground beef with chopped onion.
  • Drain excess fat.
  • Season with salt, pepper, and optional spices.

3️⃣ Prepare potato layer:

  • Slice potatoes thinly (¼-inch thick) for even cooking.

4️⃣ Assemble casserole:

  • Layer half of the potatoes on the bottom of the dish.
  • Spread cooked beef mixture over potatoes.
  • Mix half of the soup with milk and pour over beef.
  • Repeat layers with remaining potatoes and soup.

5️⃣ Top with cheese:

  • Sprinkle shredded cheddar evenly over the top.

6️⃣ Bake:

  • Cover with foil and bake 45 minutes.
  • Remove foil and bake an additional 15–20 minutes until potatoes are tender and cheese is golden.

7️⃣ Serve:

  • Let cool 5 minutes before slicing. Optional garnish: chopped parsley.

  • Add vegetables like frozen peas or carrots for color and nutrition.
  • For extra flavor, try mixing some Worcestershire sauce or mustard into the beef layer.
