Buttermilk pie

Here’s a classic, easy Buttermilk Pie recipe—sweet, tangy, and creamy:


Ingredients (for 8 servings)

For the crust:

  • 1 unbaked 9-inch pie crust (store-bought or homemade)

For the filling:

  • 1 ½ cups sugar
  • 3 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • ¼ tsp salt
  • 3 large eggs
  • ½ cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • Optional: pinch of nutmeg for topping

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven:
    • Preheat to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Prepare crust:
    • Place pie crust in a 9-inch pie pan and set aside.
  3. Make filling:
    • In a bowl, whisk together sugar, flour, and salt.
    • Beat in eggs, melted butter, buttermilk, and vanilla until smooth.
  4. Assemble pie:
    • Pour filling into prepared crust.
    • Optional: sprinkle a pinch of nutmeg on top for extra flavor.
  5. Bake:
    • Bake for 50–60 minutes until the filling is set and the top is lightly golden.
    • Let cool completely before slicing; filling firms as it cools.

💡 Tips:

  • Serve plain or with whipped cream for extra indulgence.
  • For a slightly tangier flavor, use slightly more buttermilk (up to 1 ¼ cups).
  • Avoid overbaking—the center should jiggle slightly when you remove it from the oven; it will firm up as it cools.
