Breadsticks

Posted on November 5, 2025 by Admin

Perfect choice — homemade breadsticks are simple, delicious, and make your kitchen smell amazing 😋

Here’s a classic soft breadsticks recipe (like Olive Garden–style):

🥖 Soft Garlic Butter Breadsticks

Ingredients

For the dough:

  • 1 cup warm water (about 110°F / 43°C)
  • 2 ¼ tsp active dry yeast (1 packet)
  • 2 tbsp granulated sugar
  • 3 tbsp unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 ½ tsp salt
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour (plus a bit more for kneading)

For topping:

  • 3 tbsp unsalted butter, melted
  • ½ tsp garlic powder
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 1 tbsp finely chopped parsley (optional)

Instructions

  1. Activate the yeast:
In a large bowl, combine warm water, yeast, and sugar. Let it sit for 5–10 minutes, until frothy.
  2. Make the dough:
Add melted butter, salt, and 2 cups of flour. Mix until combined, then gradually add the remaining flour until a soft dough forms.
  3. Knead:
Turn the dough out onto a floured surface. Knead for about 5–7 minutes, until smooth and elastic.
  4. First rise:
Place dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover with a towel or plastic wrap, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
  5. Shape breadsticks:
Punch down the dough. Divide into 12 equal pieces and roll each into a 7–8 inch rope. Arrange on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
  6. Second rise:
Cover and let rise again for 20–30 minutes while you preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
  7. Bake:
Bake for 12–14 minutes, until golden brown on top.
  8. Add topping:
Mix melted butter, garlic powder, and salt. Brush over warm breadsticks. Sprinkle with parsley if desired.

💡 Tips

  • For crispy Italian-style grissini, use less butter and roll thinner — bake at 375°F (190°C) for 15–20 minutes until crunchy.
  • You can freeze baked breadsticks for up to 2 months. Reheat at 350°F (175°C) for 5–7 minutes.
