Ingredients

For the biscuits:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ cup (1 stick) cold butter, cubed
  • ¾ cup milk

For the sausage gravy:

  • 1 lb breakfast sausage (pork or turkey)
  • 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 2–3 cups milk
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste
  • Optional: pinch of garlic powder or onion powder

Optional toppings:

  • Shredded cheddar cheese
  • Chopped parsley

Instructions

1. Preheat oven

  • Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.

2. Make biscuits

  1. In a bowl, mix flour, baking powder, and salt.
  2. Cut in butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  3. Stir in milk until just combined.
  4. Drop spoonfuls of dough evenly into the prepared baking dish.

3. Make sausage gravy

  1. In a skillet over medium heat, cook sausage until browned.
  2. Sprinkle in flour and stir for 1–2 minutes.
  3. Gradually whisk in milk until thickened, about 5–7 minutes.
  4. Season with salt, pepper, and optional spices.

4. Assemble casserole

  1. Pour sausage gravy over the biscuit dough in the baking dish.
  2. Optional: sprinkle shredded cheese on top.

5. Bake

  • Bake 25–30 minutes, until biscuits are golden and cooked through.

6. Serve

  • Garnish with chopped parsley if desired.
  • Serve hot for a filling breakfast or brunch.

  • Shortcut: Use store-bought biscuit dough to save time.
  • Cheesy version: Stir extra cheddar into the gravy before pouring over biscuits.
