Baked onion rings

Here’s a crispy, healthier Baked Onion Rings recipe — golden on the outside, tender on the inside, and no deep frying needed.


🧅 Baked Onion Rings

🛒 Ingredients (Serves 4)

  • 2 large sweet onions (like Vidalia), sliced into ½-inch rings
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 tbsp milk
  • 1½ cups panko breadcrumbs (for extra crispiness)
  • ½ tsp garlic powder
  • ½ tsp paprika
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ¼ tsp black pepper
  • Cooking spray or olive oil spray

👩‍🍳 Instructions

1️⃣ Preheat oven
425°F (220°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and lightly spray.

2️⃣ Set up breading station

  • Bowl 1: Flour
  • Bowl 2: Eggs + milk (whisked)
  • Bowl 3: Panko + garlic powder + paprika + salt + pepper

3️⃣ Coat the rings

  • Dredge onion ring in flour (shake off excess).
  • Dip in egg mixture.
  • Coat well in seasoned panko, pressing lightly to stick.

4️⃣ Arrange & spray
Place on baking sheet in a single layer. Spray tops lightly with cooking spray.

5️⃣ Bake
Bake 15–20 minutes, flipping halfway through, until golden brown and crisp.


🔥 Extra Crispy Tips

  • Toast panko in a dry skillet for 2–3 minutes before coating.
  • Use a wire rack on top of the baking sheet for better air circulation.
  • Don’t overcrowd the pan.

🥣 Dipping Sauce Ideas

  • Ranch
  • Honey mustard
  • Spicy mayo (mayo + sriracha)
  • BBQ sauce
