Baked Ground Beef & Pasta Casserole

Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 12 oz pasta (penne, rotini, or elbows work great)
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 2–3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 jar (24 oz) marinara or pasta sauce
  • 1 can (14–15 oz) diced tomatoes, drained (optional)
  • 1 tsp Italian seasoning
  • Salt & pepper, to taste
  • 1½–2 cups shredded cheese (mozzarella, cheddar, or a blend)
  • Optional extras: mushrooms, bell peppers, olives, red pepper flakes

Instructions

  1. Cook pasta
    Boil in salted water until just al dente. Drain.
  2. Brown the beef
    In a large skillet, cook ground beef and onion over medium heat until beef is browned. Drain excess fat. Add garlic and cook 30 seconds.
  3. Sauce it up
    Stir in marinara, diced tomatoes, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper. Simmer 5–10 minutes.
  4. Combine
    Mix cooked pasta with the beef sauce.
  5. Assemble
    Spread into a greased 9×13 baking dish. Sprinkle cheese evenly on top.
  6. Bake
    Bake uncovered at 375°F (190°C) for 25–30 minutes, until bubbly and lightly browned.
  7. Rest & serve
    Let it sit 5–10 minutes before serving (worth the wait).
