Apple pie

Here’s a classic homemade apple pie recipe—simple, cozy, and always a favorite 🍎🥧


Ingredients (Serves 8)

For the crust:

  • 2 unbaked 9-inch pie crusts (store-bought or homemade)

For the filling:

  • 6–7 cups apples, peeled, cored, and sliced (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp work great)
  • ¾ cup sugar
  • 2 tbsp brown sugar
  • 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • ¼ tsp nutmeg (optional)
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt

For topping:

  • 1 tbsp butter, cut into small pieces
  • 1 egg + 1 tbsp water (for egg wash, optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven:
    • Preheat to 425°F (220°C).
  2. Make the filling:
    • In a large bowl, mix apples, sugar, brown sugar, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, lemon juice, vanilla, and salt until apples are well coated.
  3. Assemble the pie:
    • Place one pie crust into a pie pan.
    • Pour in the apple filling and dot with butter.
    • Cover with the second crust (lattice or full top).
    • Seal edges and cut small slits if using a full top crust.
  4. Optional egg wash:
    • Brush the top crust with egg wash for a golden finish.
  5. Bake:
    • Bake at 425°F for 15 minutes, then reduce heat to 350°F (175°C).
    • Continue baking for 35–45 minutes, until crust is golden and filling is bubbly.
  6. Cool & serve:
    • Let cool for at least 2 hours before slicing so it sets properly.

💡 Tips:

  • Mix apple types for better flavor (tart + sweet).
  • If edges brown too fast, cover them with foil.
  • Serve warm with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.
