Hamburger Potato Casserole

Here’s a hearty and comforting Hamburger Potato Casserole recipe—meaty, cheesy, and full of flavor:


Ingredients (serves 4–6)

  • 1 lb (450 g) ground beef
  • 1 medium onion, diced
  • 2–3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 4 cups diced potatoes (peeled or unpeeled, your choice)
  • 1 can (10.5 oz) cream of mushroom or cream of celery soup
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1–2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 tsp paprika (optional)
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 1–2 tbsp butter or oil for sautéing
  • Optional: chopped parsley for garnish

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven
    • Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  2. Cook potatoes
    • Boil diced potatoes in salted water for 8–10 minutes until just tender. Drain and set aside.
  3. Cook beef and onions
    • In a skillet, heat butter or oil over medium heat.
    • Sauté onions and garlic until translucent. Add ground beef and cook until browned. Drain excess fat. Season with salt, pepper, and paprika.
  4. Mix casserole
    • In a large bowl, combine cooked potatoes, beef mixture, cream of mushroom soup, milk, and half of the shredded cheese. Mix gently until well combined.
  5. Assemble
    • Pour mixture into prepared baking dish. Sprinkle remaining cheese on top.
  6. Bake
    • Bake uncovered for 25–30 minutes until bubbly and cheese is melted and golden.
  7. Serve
    • Garnish with parsley if desired. Serve warm as a comforting main dish.

Tips:

  • For extra flavor, add cooked carrots, peas, or corn to the casserole.
  • You can substitute cream of chicken or cream of broccoli soup for a slightly different taste.
  • Make ahead: assemble the casserole and refrigerate for a few hours before baking.
