Pan-fried halloumi

Posted on March 6, 2026March 10, 2026 by Admin

Here’s a simple and delicious way to make Pan-Fried Halloumi—crispy on the outside, soft and salty on the inside:

Ingredients (serves 2–3)

  • 8 oz (225 g) halloumi cheese
  • 1–2 tsp olive oil (optional, for non-stick pan)
  • Freshly ground black pepper (optional)
  • Lemon wedges, for serving

Method

1. Prepare the Halloumi

  • Slice halloumi into 1/2-inch thick slices.
  • Pat dry with paper towels to remove excess moisture (this helps it brown).

2. Heat the Pan

  • Preheat a non-stick or cast-iron skillet over medium heat.
  • Add a tiny amount of oil, or cook dry—halloumi has enough natural fat.

3. Fry the Halloumi

  • Place slices in the pan without crowding.
  • Fry 2–3 minutes per side, until golden brown and crispy.

4. Serve

  • Remove from pan and serve immediately.
  • Squeeze fresh lemon juice on top and add a sprinkle of black pepper or fresh herbs if desired.

Serving Ideas

  • Serve with salads, roasted vegetables, or flatbreads.
  • Add to sandwiches, wraps, or grain bowls for extra flavor.
  • Great as a starter with dips like tzatziki or harissa.

💡 Tips

  • Don’t overcook—halloumi melts slightly but should remain firm.
  • For a smoky flavor, sprinkle lightly with smoked paprika while frying.
  • Combine with tomatoes and cucumber for a quick Mediterranean-style salad.

If you want, I can also give a crispy oven-baked halloumi version that’s less oily but still golden and delicious. Do you want me to share that?
