🥐 Savory Puff Pastry with Minced Meat & Cheese

Ingredients (makes 4–6 pastries)

  • 1 sheet puff pastry, thawed
  • 250 g (1/2 lb) minced meat (beef, lamb, or chicken)
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 1/2 tsp paprika
  • 1/2 tsp dried oregano or thyme
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1/2 cup shredded cheese (cheddar, mozzarella, or a mix)
  • 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
  • 1–2 tbsp oil for cooking

Instructions

  1. Prepare filling
    • Heat oil in a skillet over medium heat.
    • Sauté onion and garlic until soft.
    • Add minced meat and cook until browned.
    • Season with paprika, oregano, salt, and pepper.
    • Remove from heat and let cool slightly.
    • Stir in shredded cheese.
  2. Prepare puff pastry
    • Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C).
    • Roll out puff pastry on a lightly floured surface.
    • Cut into squares or rectangles (about 3×3 inches).
  3. Fill pastries
    • Place a spoonful of meat and cheese filling in the center of each square.
    • Fold pastry over (triangle or rectangle) and press edges with a fork to seal.
    • Brush tops with beaten egg for a golden finish.
  4. Bake
    • Place pastries on a lined baking sheet.
    • Bake 15–20 minutes until golden brown and puffed.
  5. Serve
    • Serve warm as a snack, appetizer, or with a side salad.

Tips

  • For extra flavor, add a little Worcestershire sauce, mustard, or chopped herbs to the filling.
  • You can freeze unbaked pastries and bake straight from frozen—just add a few extra minutes to baking time.
  • Swap cheese for feta or cream cheese for a different taste.
