20-minute homemade bread

Here’s a quick and simple 20-minute “homemade” bread recipe using a microwave and skillet—perfect when you want fresh bread fast. It won’t be like a slow-baked loaf, but it’s soft, warm, and easy.


Ingredients (makes 1 small loaf or 2–3 rolls)

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour (or whole wheat)
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp baking soda
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1 tbsp sugar (optional)
  • 1/2 cup plain yogurt (or milk + 1 tsp vinegar)
  • 1–2 tbsp oil or melted butter

Instructions

  1. Mix dry ingredients:
    • In a bowl, combine flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and sugar.
  2. Add wet ingredients:
    • Stir in yogurt and oil until a soft dough forms. If it’s too sticky, add a little more flour.
  3. Shape the bread:
    • Shape the dough into a small round loaf or individual rolls.
  4. Cook on stovetop:
    • Heat a non-stick skillet over medium-low heat.
    • Place the dough in the skillet, cover with a lid, and cook 6–8 minutes on one side.
    • Flip and cook another 6–8 minutes until golden and cooked through.
  5. Optional microwave version:
    • Place shaped dough in a microwave-safe dish.
    • Microwave on high for 2–3 minutes. Check doneness with a toothpick.
  6. Cool & serve:
    • Let it cool slightly before slicing. Enjoy warm with butter, jam, or cheese.

  • Adding herbs (like rosemary or oregano) can make a savory bread.
  • You can also mix in a few raisins or chopped nuts for a sweet version.
  • This bread is best eaten the same day since it doesn’t contain yeast for long-term fluffiness.
