Posted on December 5, 2025 by Admin

Here’s a cozy, flavorful Wonton Soup recipe with tender homemade wontons and a light, aromatic broth. You can make it simple or elevate it with extra veggies and toppings.

🥟🍜 Wonton Soup (Classic Chinese-Style)

Ingredients (4 servings)

For the Wontons

  • 1 pkg wonton wrappers
  • ½ lb ground pork (or chicken/shrimp)
  • 2 green onions, finely chopped
  • 1–2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp fresh grated ginger
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tsp sesame oil
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ¼ tsp white or black pepper

For the Broth

  • 6 cups chicken broth
  • 1–2 tsp soy sauce
  • 1 tsp sesame oil
  • 1–2 slices fresh ginger
  • 2 green onions, cut into 1-inch pieces
  • Optional: bok choy, spinach, mushrooms

To Serve

  • Sliced green onions
  • Chili oil or chili crisp (optional)
  • A few drops sesame oil

Instructions

1. Make the wonton filling

In a bowl combine:

  • Ground pork/chicken
  • Green onions
  • Garlic
  • Ginger
  • Soy sauce
  • Sesame oil
  • Salt & pepper

Mix well until sticky and combined.

2. Wrap the wontons

  1. Place 1 tsp filling in the center of each wrapper.
  2. Wet the edges with water.
  3. Fold into a triangle, pressing to seal.
  4. Bring the two bottom corners together and pinch.

(They don’t have to be perfect—just sealed.)

3. Make the broth

  1. In a pot, bring chicken broth to a simmer.
  2. Add soy sauce, sesame oil, ginger slices, and green onions.
  3. Simmer 5–10 minutes to infuse flavor.
  4. Remove ginger slices before serving.

4. Cook the wontons

  • Bring a separate pot of water to a gentle boil.
  • Add wontons and cook 4–6 minutes, until they float and meat is cooked.
(Or cook directly in the broth if you prefer—just avoid clouding the soup.)

5. Assemble the soup

  • Add cooked wontons to serving bowls.
  • Ladle hot broth over the top.
  • Add optional veggies, green onions, and chili oil.
