Turtle candy

Here’s a classic recipe for Turtle Candy—a rich, sweet treat with chocolate, caramel, and pecans:

Ingredients (Makes ~24 candies)

  • 1 cup pecan halves

  • 1 cup semisweet chocolate chips (or chocolate melts)

  • 1/2 cup caramel bits (or soft caramels, unwrapped)

  • 2 tbsp heavy cream (optional, for smoother caramel)

  • Sea salt (optional, for sprinkling)

Instructions

  1. Prepare pecans:

    • Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

    • Arrange pecan halves in small clusters (3–4 halves per cluster) on the parchment.

  2. Add caramel:

    • If using caramel bits, place a few on top of each pecan cluster.

    • If using soft caramels, melt them gently with heavy cream in a microwave-safe bowl for 20–30 seconds until smooth, then spoon over pecans.

  3. Melt chocolate:

    • Melt chocolate chips in a microwave-safe bowl in 20–30 second intervals, stirring between each, until smooth.

  4. Assemble turtles:

    • Spoon melted chocolate over each pecan/caramel cluster to cover.

    • Optional: sprinkle lightly with sea salt while chocolate is still soft.

  5. Chill and set:

    • Place baking sheet in the refrigerator for 30–45 minutes until chocolate is firm.

  6. Serve:

    • Remove from parchment and enjoy! Store in an airtight container in the fridge.

💡 Tips:

  • For a faster version, you can use store-bought caramel squares and microwave them directly over pecans.

  • Mini chocolate chips work well for small, bite-sized turtles.

  • These candies also make great homemade gifts—wrap in small cellophane bags.

I can also give a “fudgy, ultra-rich Turtle Candy” version with a layer of dark chocolate ganache under the pecans and caramel for extra decadence. Do you want that version?
