Classic Sweet Potato Casserole
Ingredients
Sweet Potato Base
- 3 lb sweet potatoes, peeled & cubed
- ½ cup sugar (brown or white)
- 2 eggs, beaten
- ½ cup milk or cream
- ½ cup melted butter
- 1 tsp vanilla
- ½ tsp cinnamon
- ¼ tsp nutmeg (optional)
- Pinch of salt
Pecan Topping
- ½ cup brown sugar
- ⅓ cup all-purpose flour
- ⅓ cup melted butter
- 1 cup chopped pecans
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Boil sweet potatoes until fork-tender; drain and mash well.
- Mix mashed potatoes with sugar, eggs, milk, butter, vanilla, spices, and salt.
- Spread mixture into a greased baking dish.
- Combine topping ingredients and sprinkle evenly over the top.
- Bake 30–35 minutes, until set and golden.
Marshmallow Topping Option
- Skip pecan topping.
- Bake casserole 25 minutes, then add mini marshmallows.
- Return to oven for 5–10 minutes until lightly browned.
