Slow cooker stuffing mix

Here’s a simple and flavorful slow cooker stuffing using boxed stuffing mix or homemade bread cubes. It’s hands-off, moist, and perfect alongside roast meats or as a holiday side.


Slow Cooker Stuffing Mix

Ingredients

  • 6 cups dry stuffing mix (or about 1 lb cubed bread, dried overnight)
  • 1 cup onion, finely chopped
  • 1 cup celery, finely chopped
  • ½ cup butter (1 stick)
  • 2–3 cups chicken or vegetable broth
  • 1 tsp dried sage
  • 1 tsp dried thyme
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • Optional: ½ cup chopped parsley, ¼ cup dried cranberries, ½ cup chopped nuts

Instructions

1. Sauté aromatics

  1. In a skillet, melt butter over medium heat.
  2. Add onion and celery; cook 5–7 minutes until softened.

2. Combine ingredients

  1. In the slow cooker, place stuffing mix.
  2. Add sautéed onion and celery.
  3. Sprinkle in sage, thyme, pepper, and optional add-ins.
  4. Pour in 2 cups broth; gently toss to moisten.

3. Cook

  • Cover and cook on LOW 2–3 hours.
  • Stir occasionally.
  • If too dry, add more broth, ¼ cup at a time, until desired consistency.

4. Serve

  • Fluffy, flavorful stuffing straight from the slow cooker.
  • Optional: top with extra butter or herbs before serving.

Tips

  • Bread texture: Slightly stale bread works best; it soaks up flavors without turning mushy.
  • Crispy top: To get a golden top, transfer to a baking dish and broil 3–5 minutes before serving.
  • Make-ahead: Assemble the night before in the slow cooker insert, cover, and refrigerate. Cook next day on LOW.
