Slow cooker chicken drumsticks

Here’s a simple and flavorful way to make slow cooker chicken drumsticks that are tender, juicy, and fall-off-the-bone delicious:


Ingredients (serves 4–6)

  • 8–10 chicken drumsticks
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp paprika (smoked or sweet)
  • 1/2 tsp onion powder
  • 1/4 tsp cayenne pepper (optional, for heat)
  • 1/2 cup BBQ sauce, teriyaki sauce, or your favorite glaze
  • 1/4 cup chicken broth or water

Instructions

1. Prepare the chicken

  1. Pat the drumsticks dry with paper towels.
  2. Mix salt, pepper, garlic powder, paprika, onion powder, and cayenne in a small bowl.
  3. Rub the seasoning mixture all over the chicken drumsticks.

2. Arrange in the slow cooker

  • Place the drumsticks in a single layer (you can stack if needed).
  • Pour the chicken broth or water around them (not directly over the seasoning).

3. Cook

  • Low setting: 6–7 hours
  • High setting: 3–4 hours
  • The chicken should reach an internal temperature of 165°F (74°C).

4. Optional: Add sauce & crisp the skin

  1. About 30 minutes before serving, brush drumsticks with BBQ sauce or your chosen glaze.
  2. For crispier skin, transfer drumsticks to a baking sheet and broil in the oven for 3–5 minutes per side until golden.

5. Serve

  • Serve with rice, mashed potatoes, or roasted vegetables.

Pro tip: The slow cooker makes the meat super tender, but if you love crispy skin, a quick broil at the end is the secret weapon.
