Slow cooked beef tips

Here’s a classic recipe for slow-cooked beef tips — tender, flavorful, and perfect over mashed potatoes, rice, or egg noodles.


🕒 Cook Time

  • Prep: 15 minutes

  • Cook: 6–8 hours (slow cooker)

  • Serves: 4–6


🧂 Ingredients

  • 2 lbs beef stew meat or sirloin tips, cut into bite-sized pieces

  • 2 tbsp olive oil or butter

  • 1 medium onion, diced

  • 3 cloves garlic, minced

  • 2 cups beef broth

  • 1 packet brown gravy mix (or 2 tbsp flour + 1 tbsp cornstarch + 1 tsp beef bouillon)

  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce

  • 1 tsp salt

  • ½ tsp black pepper

  • ½ tsp onion powder

  • ½ tsp dried thyme (optional)

  • 1 tbsp cornstarch + 1 tbsp water (for thickening, optional)


🍳 Instructions

Slow Cooker Method

  1. Brown the beef (optional but adds flavor):
    Heat oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Brown the beef tips in batches (about 2–3 minutes per side). Transfer to the slow cooker.

  2. Add aromatics:
    In the same skillet, sauté onions and garlic until softened, about 2 minutes. Add to the slow cooker.

  3. Mix the sauce:
    In a bowl, whisk together beef broth, gravy mix, Worcestershire sauce, and seasonings. Pour over the beef.

  4. Cook:

    • Low: 7–8 hours

    • High: 4–5 hours
      Until beef is fork-tender.

  5. Thicken (optional):
    Mix cornstarch and water, stir into the slow cooker, and cook an additional 20–30 minutes until thickened.


🍽️ Serving Ideas

  • Serve over mashed potatoes, buttered noodles, or rice.

  • Garnish with chopped parsley or fresh thyme.
