Slap Ya Mama Pound Cake

Posted on November 10, 2025February 21, 2026 by Admin

Here’s a recipe for the Southern-style Slap Ya Mama Pound Cake — rich, buttery, and a definite show-stopper:

Ingredients

Cake:

  • 1 lb (4 sticks) unsalted butter (softened)
  • 2½ cups granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tsp almond extract (optional)
  • 8 large eggs (room temperature)
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 1 cup whole milk (room temperature)
    (Etudl Recipes)

For the glaze (optional but recommended):

  • 1½ cups powdered sugar
  • 2-3 Tbsp milk or heavy cream
  • ½ tsp vanilla extract
    (Etudl Recipes)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 325°F (165°C). Grease and flour a 10-inch tube pan or Bundt pan. (Etudl Recipes)
  2. In a large mixing bowl, cream the butter and sugar together for ~5-7 minutes until very light and fluffy. (Ella Dishes)
  3. Add the vanilla and almond extracts. Mix.
  4. Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. (Out of the Box Baking)
  5. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
  6. Alternately add the dry flour mixture and the milk to the butter-egg mixture, starting and ending with the flour (i.e., flour → milk → flour → milk → flour). Mix just until combined. (Etudl Recipes)
  7. Pour the batter into the prepared pan, smoothing the top gently.
  8. Bake for about 1 hour 20-30 minutes (or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean). (Etudl Recipes)
  9. Let the cake sit in the pan for ~15-20 minutes, then invert onto a wire rack to cool completely. (Etudl Recipes)
  10. While the cake cools, make the glaze: whisk together powdered sugar, milk/cream, and vanilla until pourable but not too thin. Drizzle over the cooled cake. (Out of the Box Baking)
  11. Let glaze set for ~15-20 minutes before slicing.

Tips & Serving Suggestions

  • Use room-temperature ingredients for best texture. (Etudl Recipes)
  • Don’t over-mix after adding flour—over-mixing develops gluten and can make the cake tough. (Buono Recipes)
  • This cake keeps well at room temperature (covered) for a few days. (Out of the Box Baking)
  • Serve plain or with whipped cream, fresh berries, or a scoop of vanilla ice cream for extra indulgence.
  • For a twist: add lemon zest or a little almond extract for variation. (Ella Dishes)
