Here’s a classic Red Velvet Cake recipe—moist, tender, and topped with creamy cream cheese frosting ❤️🍰

Red Velvet Cake

Ingredients

Cake

  • 2½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1½ cups granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp cocoa powder (unsweetened)
  • 1½ cups vegetable oil
  • 1 cup buttermilk, room temperature
  • 2 large eggs, room temperature
  • 2 tbsp red food coloring
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tsp white vinegar

Cream Cheese Frosting

  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 4 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Instructions

1. Prep

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
  • Line with parchment paper if desired.

2. Mix Dry Ingredients

  • In a bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, cocoa, baking soda, and salt.

3. Mix Wet Ingredients

  • In another bowl, whisk together oil, buttermilk, eggs, food coloring, vanilla, and vinegar.

4. Combine

  • Gradually add dry ingredients to wet, mixing until smooth.
  • Do not overmix.

5. Bake

  • Divide batter evenly into pans.
  • Bake 25–30 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  • Cool in pans 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.

6. Make Frosting

  • Beat cream cheese and butter until smooth.
  • Gradually add powdered sugar and vanilla.
  • Beat until creamy.

7. Assemble

  • Frost cooled cakes with cream cheese frosting.
  • Optional: Decorate with cake crumbs, sprinkles, or fresh berries.

Tips

  • Buttermilk makes the cake moist and tender.
  • Vinegar + baking soda gives a light, fluffy texture.
  • Room temperature ingredients prevent curdling and uneven texture.
  • For a more vibrant red: Use gel food coloring.

If you want, I can also give a one-bowl red velvet cake, cupcake version, or decadent layered version with ganache 😄
