Yum — puff pastry sticks with ham and cheese are one of those easy, crowd-pleasing snacks that look fancy but take barely any effort! 🧀🥐 Perfect for appetizers, brunch, or game day.

Here’s how to make them 👇

🧡 Ham & Cheese Puff Pastry Sticks

Servings: About 12 sticks
Prep Time: 10–15 minutes
Bake Time: 15–20 minutes
Total Time: ~30 minutes

🧂 Ingredients

  • 1 sheet puff pastry (about 9×9 in / 23×23 cm), thawed if frozen

  • 4–5 slices deli ham (thinly sliced)

  • ½–¾ cup shredded cheese (Gruyère, Swiss, cheddar, or mozzarella work great)

  • 1 egg (for egg wash)

  • 1 tbsp Dijon mustard (optional, for a little tang)

  • Freshly ground black pepper (optional)

  • Sesame seeds or grated Parmesan for topping (optional)

👩‍🍳 Instructions

  1. Preheat oven:
Set to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

  2. Prepare the puff pastry:

    • Roll out the puff pastry slightly on a floured surface to smooth the creases.

    • If you like a little tang, brush one side lightly with Dijon mustard.

  3. Add the fillings:

    • Sprinkle cheese evenly over the mustard (or plain pastry if you skipped it).

    • Layer slices of ham to cover the cheese.

    • Lightly press down with your rolling pin so the layers stick together.

  4. Fold and cut:

    • Fold the pastry in half (like closing a book) to enclose the filling.

    • Roll gently to seal the layers together.

    • Cut into ½-inch (1–1.5 cm) wide strips.

  5. Twist:

    • Take each strip and twist it 2–3 times into a spiral shape.

    • Place on the baking sheet, spacing about 1 inch apart.

  6. Egg wash & toppings:

    • Beat the egg and brush over the tops.

    • Sprinkle with black pepper, sesame seeds, or Parmesan if desired.

  7. Bake:

    • Bake 15–20 minutes, or until puffed and golden brown.

    • Let cool slightly before serving — cheese will be very hot inside!

🍴 Serving Tips

  • Serve warm or at room temperature with honey mustard, ranch, or spicy aioli for dipping.

  • Great as part of a brunch spread or a party snack platter.
