Patty Melt

Ingredients:

1 lb (450 g) ground beef

Salt and pepper, to taste

4 slices rye bread
-
4 slices Swiss cheese (or cheddar)

1 onion, thinly sliced

2β3 tbsp butter
-
Optional: 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
Instructions:

Cook the onions:

In a skillet over medium heat, melt 1 tbsp butter.

Add sliced onions and cook, stirring occasionally, until caramelized (about 8β10 minutes).

Remove from pan and set aside.

Form and cook the patties:

Divide the ground beef into 2 equal portions and shape into thin patties slightly larger than your bread slices.

Season with salt and pepper (and Worcestershire sauce if using).

In the same skillet, cook patties 3β4 minutes per side until browned and cooked through.

Assemble the sandwich:

Butter one side of each bread slice.

On the unbuttered side, layer: slice of cheese β cooked patty β caramelized onions β slice of cheese β top bread slice (buttered side out).

Grill the sandwich:

Heat skillet over medium heat.

Cook the sandwich 3β4 minutes per side, pressing lightly, until bread is golden brown and cheese is melted.

Slice in half and enjoy hot! Perfect with pickles or fries.
